Q. What is NC?

A. NC or Noise Criterion is a set of curves that specifies acceptable background noise levels by providing octave band noise level limits. Each curve is designated by a number. A high NC level means that a higher background noise level can be tolerated which implies that the space is not noise sensitive. Eg. The suitable background noise criterion for an office area is NC35 and corridor area is NC40.
